I Neglected To Do My Homework!

Several months ago I decided it was time to expand my home. After discussing my thoughts with two different General Contractors, I figured it might be easier to compare quotes by having the General Contractors bid "to plan". One of the generals suggested a designer/drafter that he had used in the past with much success. After getting a reasonable quote from her, I wrote the check and had her come to measure. We discussed my agressive time schedule, and she let me know that this would not be a problem. She took down the dimensions and then left. That was the last time I actually saw her. I finally received red-lined plans (not ready for re-submittal) after firing her for lying to me many times about the progress. After I hire a new designer, I may get my permits in another two months. That will be 6 months for plans on a simple room addition / expansion (less than 600 sqft).

I will not go into details here as to how I was burned by Debbie Clark of DC Design ( I can't due to legal constraints).

What I will say is that I neglected to search the BBB website. Never go by a referral (no matter what). Do your homework! Also, as a recommendation, look for quality service people on Angie's List.

One thing for sure, I WILL do my homework from now on!!!
